Empowering Communities
Whilst we pride ourselves on being relentless in our work pursuits, what makes our world also tick is the ability to make meaningful relationships through giving back. At Karrin Associates, we view local community empowerment especially for the less fortunate as paramount in our reason for being. Through the sport of Rugby, we contribute time and monetary means in providing opportunities for the youth in Borneo to make a difference to their local communities. Your support in Karrin Associates will directly impact our continued contribution in this space.
Supporting Communities
While the pressing need for necessities was expected given widespread lockdowns and Covid-19 induced unemployment, we were taken aback by the sheer number of families in desperate need particularly in urban areas. As the Covid-19 lockdowns draw to an end in most countries, there are reasons to believe that the incidences of widespread urban poverty could abate, but at this point the situation still appears delicate at best. Karrin Associates will continue to do our little part in helping make the community where we have a presence in, a better place for all.

Karrin Associates x The Lost Food Project
Under its Covid-19 Hunger Relief Programme, The Lost Food Project receives daily online requests for basic needs and have managed assistance to 586 and 453 beneficiary groups/families within Klang Valley alone in July and August. To ensure minimal wastage/abuse of resources, TLFP communicates with each help request to understand their specific needs and to ensure safe delivery of these items. Karrin Associates contributed to 85 beneficiary groups in July and August (mainly requests through TLFP), buying the required necessities and arranging for transportation to ensure safe delivery to these families. Anecdotally, we saw some worrying trends where the requests seen during the first month of the drive from groups residing in lower income areas such as Ampang and Batu Caves districts quickly evolved to include requests from more affluent districts such as Bangsar and Cheras. Through TLFP, we were able to reach various orphanages, refugee residences as well as other communities in need in the urban area.
Karrin Associates x Eagles Rugby Club
Through our association with the Eagles Rugby Club in Sabah, Borneo, Karrin Associates was able to provide monetary support for the food drive and front liner meal contributions to some of the poorest regions of Borneo. Our long association with the club gave us the confidence that the money would be well spent and sent directly to the target communities. Similarly, the needs trend we saw skewed towards the urban folk of Sandakan with the rural folk likely able to tide the pandemic relatively better through fruits and vegetation from available land.

The Lost Food Project (TLFP) is a Malaysian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to a sustainable future by rescuing ‘lost’ food and finding it a new home with people who need it most. TLFP prevents quality, nutritious food and other surplus goods from going to landfill, and redistributes this food and other essential items to those in need – regardless of religion, gender, age, disability or ethnic group.
Eagles Rugby Club (ERC) is a rugby club based in the city of Sandakan in the island of Borneo, Malaysia. Predominantly a touring rugby club, the management of the team is highly committed in elevating the standard of living and access to opportunity of its community through the sport of rugby. The success of the team in various competitions domestically and internationally, carves a path for locals to dream big beyond their existing economic limitations, a cause that really resonates with us at Karrin Associates. The recent food donation drive to the hardest hit areas of Sandakan is just one other example of the impact it is creating in the community.
